Mike founded Thompson Placemaking in 2015 to help developers, businesses and individuals design buildings and neighborhoods that are not only functional, but also beautiful. His expertise includes commercial, mixed-use and residential architecture, architectural pattern books, neighborhood design, illustrations, and design review services.
His passion for timeless architecture started as a child growing up in New Orleans, but blossomed as a professional when he joined Michael Barranco's architecture firm in Jackson Mississippi in the late 90's. While working with Michael, they teamed up with Duany, Plater-Zyberk & Company on numerous charrettes across the country and in Central America where they helped define the architectural character of both new and existing towns.
Mike currently serves as Town Architect for The Village at Madison in Madison MS; Annafeld in Billings, MT; Adelaide in Starkville; The Lamar in Oxford; and Waterpointe in Flowood, MS.
Mike earned his architecture degree from the University of Tennessee, and he has received a certificate in Retail Planning from Harvard and a certificate in Residential Design from the Seaside Institute.
