Matthew Hoffman AIA is the Director of Urban Design for MBL Planning + Architecture, and a founding principal of Casa Bianca Design. Over ten years with the City of Fayetteville Arkansas, Mr. Hoffman served as Chairman of the Planning Commission, the Board of Adjustments, and the city’s Long Range Planning Committee. His work in architecture and urbanism has been recognized by state and national awards from the American Institute of Architects, World Architecture News, the American Planning Association, and the Congress for the New Urbanism. Mr. Hoffman has been an invited speaker on architecture and planning topics at the Congress for the New Urbanism, the American Planning Association, the American Institute of Architects Arkansas Convention, and the University of Arkansas Center for Agriculture and Rural Sustainability. Mr. Hoffman’s portfolio at MBL Planning currently includes municipal projects in four different states; he is also a member of the master planning and architectural design team for Walmart’s new 350-acre Home Office in Bentonville Arkansas.

Mr. Hoffman and his colleagues are currently working on the first multi-type Pattern Zones to be adopted at municipal scale in the United States. Equal parts zoning and economic development incentive, Pattern Zones offer pre-approved building types complete with full builder’s sets of drawings to prospective small-developers within specific municipal study areas. The program gives ordinary people access to award winning designs for development projects in their neighborhood, and gives them a path to a building permit in days instead of weeks or months. The Pattern Zone for Bryan Texas was recognized at the 2020 CNU Charter Awards with an Award of Merit for Emerging Projects.
