Mallory Baches is an urban designer with over twenty years of experience working at the intersection of urban planning and community development. She began her career with Duany Plater-Zyberk & Company, the leading firm in new urbanist design, development, and implementation practices. Evolving from her international work for the firm, she became a founder of its first affiliate office, DPZpacific, overseeing new urbanist work across the Pacific region. She continues her own urban design practice with both private and public clients, providing award-winning greenfield and infill masterplans, architectural and adaptive reuse concept designs, and urban and architectural codes and associated design guidelines. In November 2022, Mallory was named President of the Congress for the New Urbanism.
She holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Science in Sustainable Urban Development from the University of Oxford. She is accredited with the American Planning Association (AICP), the U.S. Green Building Council (LEED-AP), and the Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU-A). She was named a member of the 2013 Next Urban Vanguard class by Next City, and is a former board member and former President of the Association for Community Design, and is a member of The Urban Guild. Her research on historic preservation and social sustainability can be found in New Urban Research, her writing is featured in Smart Cities Policies and Financing: Approaches and Solutions (Elsevier), and her urban design work has been featured by Next City.
